FAQ

What is Turbine?

Turbine is a globally patented nasal dilator, designed to fit comfortably inside the nose and gently open each individual nostril to allow more airflow during sport, physical exertion or focused breathing (such as yoga and meditation).

How does the Turbine enhance my breathing?

Turbine increases airflow through the nose by an average of 38%, helping to reduce the feeling of breathlessness.   Simply put, by dilating your nose (even slightly) you can increase the amount of air going in and also, importantly, increase the amount of exhaust air (CO2) you can expel.  And, as you know, when you’re going hard, every little bit helps.

Using Turbine allows you to breathe more efficiently with every breath, enabling the body to focus energy on the muscles that need it, when they need it.

When exercising, oxygen is extracted from the air in your lungs, absorbed into the blood stream and circulated to enable muscular contraction. Supplying your exercising muscles with the air they need, has a high energy cost; Turbine may help reduce this. Try it today and find out for yourself.

How does the Turbine feel when I’m wearing it?

Turbine is made from an ultra soft medical-grade polymer and is designed to follow the internal anatomical structures of the nose. The device gently dilates each individual nostril, via an adjustable ratchet mechanism, without putting pressure on the septum and can be worn comfortably for many hours.

What is the difference between Turbine and Mute?

Our nasal respiratory technologies, Turbine and Mute are both designed to make breathing easier during sleep or during exercise, increasing airflow on average, up to 38%. However, as the needs of the sleeper and the athlete are very different, we have built some different features in to each product.

During sleep, the device needs to be light and flexible to ensure it sits inside the nose comfortably throughout the night. To achieve this we have used more flexible and transparent materials to allow for different sleeping positions.

For sport, comfort and retention during percussive movement is vital, so aside from choosing a different material combination, we have included additional retention features on the paddles and curved arms to comfortably hold it in place. Additionally, the Turbine includes a fine tuning feature allowing the wearer to easily adjust the dilation of each nostril while the device is in place, such as increasing the dilation when under heavy intense exercise.

How long does each Turbine last?

Each device is recommended for use up to 10 times. A single pack comes with three devices.

Why should I change Turbine after 10 uses?

Testing has shown that to optimise the performance of the device, comfort and fit, Turbine should be replaced after 10 uses.
While Turbine may appear fit for use beyond 10 uses, optimal device performance cannot be guaranteed because:

1. Of the risk of bacteria accumulation and the maintenance of hygiene standards.
2. The device may discolour or the ultra-soft polymer may begin to stiffen affecting comfort.
3. The dilation mechanism will wear and may not hold its dilation effectively.

How do I choose the right size Turbine?

We offer a trial pack which contains a small, medium and large inside. This can be purchased online.

Generally, women are either small or medium and men are likely to be medium or large. With a trial pack, you can try all three and see which is most comfortable for you. We would recommend this method.

Otherwise, you can print out a sizing guide and size yourself at home. Just make sure you print the page as actual size in your printer settings.

How do I clean Turbine?

It is recommended in the instructions to wash the device with mild soapy warm water, paying close attention to cleaning the dilation mechanism. Then rinse thoroughly and dry well before storing out of direct heat and sun. Good idea to rinse again for next wear.

What is Turbine made from?

Both Turbine and Mute are moulded with ultra soft medical grade polymers which do not contain BPA or Phthalates. BPA is typically associated with polycarbonate and phthalates with PVC. In addition, both materials are latex free.

Is Turbine latex free?

Our product is labelled latex free.

Our chosen material for Turbine is a medical grade SEBS, a synthetic rubber. Our supplier of our raw material confirms that their medical grade SEBS is latex free. SEBS is used in everyday items like handlebar grips on a bike, sports mouth guards, teethers, toothbrushes, toys, films, bags, disposable packaging and products used by dentists.

We can also confirm that it is a requirement that our manufacturer maintains a latex-free environment ensuring that during moulding and packaging, that the product does not inadvertently come into contact with latex from any other source.

Is Turbine recyclable?

Turbine’s packaging is recyclable including the instruction booklet, outer box and inner tray. The device should be disposed of in your normal refuse bin.
